Regional keys — what you need to know
Some game keys are region-specific — e.g. only for Argentina, Turkey, India. They are cheaper, but often DON'T work in Poland.
What do region labels mean?
GLOBAL / WORLDWIDE / WW
Works everywhere. Usually the official publisher or fairly declared.
EU / EUROPE / EEA / UK
Keys intended for the European Union. Works in Poland.
PL / POLAND
Regional keys for Poland. Works, often fastest activations.
AR / TR / IN / RU / BR / other 2-3 letter codes
Region-specific keys for a particular country (Argentina, Turkey, India, Russia, Brazil, etc.). Steam/EA/Ubisoft often BLOCK activation from a different region.
Why are they cheaper?
Game publishers (Steam, EA, Ubisoft, etc.) set different prices for different regions — by purchasing power parity. The Witcher 3 costs e.g. 79 PLN in Poland, but the Argentinian version may sell for the equivalent of 30 PLN. Wholesale key sellers buy in cheaper countries and resell in expensive ones.
Why is it risky?
- Activation block — Steam/EA detect the user's IP region and reject the key: "This product is not available in your region".
- Anti-VPN heuristics — even with a VPN, Steam increasingly recognises "not-in-region" activation attempts and blocks them.
- Account ban — sellers advertise "just use a VPN", but the Steam Subscriber Agreement explicitly forbids bypassing regional restrictions. May result in a ban of the whole Steam account.
- No refunds — foreign stores are not subject to Polish consumer warranty law; support says "our policy says the key was OK".
What do labels on RespawnKey mean?
- GLOBAL/EU/PL — safe, works in PL.
- AR/TR/... — region-specific key. May NOT work in PL.
- Region undefined — seller didn't specify. Check before buying.
What we do to protect you
- Clear labels — region is as visible as price (not hidden in a tooltip).
- Server-side classification — we don't trust what sellers write, we have our own mapping logic.
- Seller tracking — stores with frequent "GLOBAL → actually restricted" cases will be marked with a lower trust tier.
In short: if you see a price 3× cheaper than elsewhere — it's almost always a regional key. Check the label.
